Diabetes and periodontitis have a well-recognized two-way association: poor glucose control may increase periodontal inflammation and healing risk, while periodontal inflammation may make metabolic control more difficult. Periodontal disease and dementia<\/h2>\n\t\t\t

Observational studies have reported an association between gum disease, tooth loss, and dementia. These findings do not prove that periodontal disease causes dementia or that periodontal treatment prevents it. When should I arrange a periodontal examination?<\/h2>\n\t\t\t

Arrange an assessment if you notice repeated bleeding, swelling, bad breath, gum recession, loose teeth, or changes in your bite.
